Terms of Use

Last updated: September 3, 2026

By using filesaudit.com or the FilesAudit Desktop App ("the Service"), you agree to these terms.

The Service

FilesAudit extracts technical metadata from files you upload (or, in the Desktop App, files on your own computer): EXIF/GPS data, hashes, codec details, document properties, and AI-provenance signals, among others. The free web version analyzes one file at a time, with a maximum file size limit shown at upload. The Desktop App is a paid, one-time-purchase, lifetime license with no file-count limit.

What the Service does not do

FilesAudit reports the technical metadata a file contains. It does not verify legal ownership, authenticity, or provenance, and any AI-generation indicators shown (including C2PA manifest data) are based on metadata the file itself declares or heuristic signature detection — not independent verification. Absence of AI-related metadata does not prove a file wasn't AI-generated (metadata can be stripped or simply never written by the tool that created the file); presence of such metadata reflects what the file declares, not an independent judgment by us. Do not rely on FilesAudit reports as sole evidence in legal, financial, or safety-critical decisions.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Upload files containing illegal content, malware, or material that infringes others' rights.
  • Attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or its infrastructure.
  • Use automated scraping or bulk-upload tooling against the free web tier (the Desktop App exists precisely for unlimited/bulk use — see Desktop App).
  • Misrepresent a FilesAudit report as an independent forensic certification it is not.

We reserve the right to block access for abuse of the Service.

Your files and reports

You retain all rights to files you upload. We do not claim any ownership over them. See our Privacy Policy for how uploaded files and generated reports are handled and deleted.

Desktop App purchase

The Desktop App lifetime license is a one-time payment processed by Paddle.com (our payment provider and merchant of record), covering personal or organizational use of the app you purchase it for. Refund requests are handled per Paddle's standard refund policy — contact support@filesaudit.com or Paddle directly. License keys are non-transferable resale items and tied to your purchase; do not share them.

Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. Metadata extraction depends on third-party libraries and the quality of metadata embedded by the software that originally created your file — we cannot guarantee every field will be present, correct, or complete for every file.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FilesAudit is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including decisions made based on a generated report.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time; continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
